OverChat Introduction
OverChat is back. After the hard drive on our main server got clobbered! We were rarely fully offline, our chat server was mainly available, however people thought we were completely gone because the web-site did not exist for a bit. It had to be recovered from backups and some information may be out of date.
OverChat is an instant messenger system originally created by David Duncan Ross Palmer. We launched on March 10th 2002. We hope to turn this relay into a fully featured Instant Messenger suitable for the enterprise. We wish to incorporate VoIP, file sharing, chat rooms and video conferencing into it, with support from the Open Source community.
Management
OverChat is managed and policed by it's assigned staff, all decisions are made by a carefully selected executive committee. The discussions of this Committee are made public on this site. If you have been contributing to OverChat for a while and wish to make a representation to the committee or be considered for committee membership you can do so by e-mailing us. The executive committee formalise policy for the OverChat code base, which may be used by multiple sites under the terms of the BSD license and the OverChat service as run by Daybo Logic who are presently the legal entity backing OverChat development.

Release Schedule
OverChat 0.2.0 (Restronguet) was released March 6th 2006.
We are now accepting and writing patches for Restronguet, working towards our Brunswick release.
The tree has now been broken up, so Blake is a separate project from the server proect, although they are all interlinked considerably.
We Want Your Input
If you have any questions about the OverChat project you would like to discuss, please post a message on our forum, or e-mail the Committee. Also, if you want to chat with the users, developers and the Committee, you can do so on digiServ IRC Network, channel #chat.
We have also set up a public OverChat dedicated channel on IRC, you can discuss anything to do with OverChat in channel #overchat. Want to talk to us, but don't have an IRC client? why not use our Web interface on the right?
Note: If #overchat is vacant, please type: /join #chat in your client or in the Web interface as many of the developers and members can be found in the general channel too.
